When Washimi first visited my island, I wanted to create a cabin that reflected both her elegant appearance and her calm, practical personality. As a secretary bird, she has such a refined design, and her composed, no-nonsense attitude in the show made me want to give her a home that felt sophisticated rather than overly cute or colorful.
I'd always loved the beautiful tulip fabric pattern from the Nordic furniture collection, but I could never quite find the right place to use it. In fact, I'd wanted to decorate with it ever since I first started playing, long before Washimi ever visited my island. The moment she arrived, I finally knew exactly where it belonged.
I combined the clean, modern shape of the Nordic furniture with the elegant tulip fabric, recoloring the wood to black while keeping the sofa and armchair upholstery white. I left the tulip pattern on the cushions to add just the right amount of color, creating a cabin that felt both refined and welcoming.
Washimi's Original Cabin Design
When I first created this cabin, I didn't own a dark wooden floor that matched the look I had in mind. Instead, I used the Springtime Wallpaper, which complemented the magenta tones in the tulip fabric, together with the Scholastic Celebration Flooring. The bright floral wallpaper actually worked surprisingly well with the Nordic furniture and helped bring out the beautiful colors in the tulip pattern.
Although I was happy with how the cabin turned out at the time, it always felt a little brighter and more colorful than I imagined for Washimi. I wanted her home to feel a bit more refined and mature, with a darker and more elegant atmosphere that matched her calm and professional personality.
Even so, I loved how the Nordic furniture came together. The sleek black wood paired beautifully with the white upholstery, while the tulip accents added just enough warmth without taking away from the elegant atmosphere. This cabin became the first time I finally got to use the tulip pattern I had always loved, and it quickly became one of my favorite cabin designs on the island.
Washimi's New Cabin
Even though I was already happy with Washimi's cabin, everything changed once I unlocked the Modern Criss Cross Flooring and Modern Paneled Wallpaper from the Imagination Café in City Town. The moment I saw them, I knew they were exactly what this cabin had been missing.
The darker colors, clean lines, and modern design tied the entire room together and finally gave it the elegant atmosphere I'd originally imagined for Washimi. It felt much closer to her refined personality while still keeping the cabin warm and inviting.
Rather than completely redesigning the room, I decided to keep almost all of the original furniture. The Nordic furniture, rugs, and bathtub all remained, but I rearranged the layout to give the cabin a fresh new feel. I moved the bed into the corner beside the large modern windows, tucked the bathroom into a more private corner, and swapped the positions of the desk and armchair to create more of a secretary's office feeling.
I also added several plants and flower pots from last year's Springtime Celebration, which I finally collected this year. I think they complement the darker color palette beautifully while adding a softer, more elegant touch to the room. I couldn't resist adding a small Crowbert Plushie from the Piano Plush Pals collection, too. It felt like the perfect little City Town touch and matched the new wallpaper and flooring surprisingly well.
A Fresh New Look
Although I was very tempted to replace everything with the new Modern furniture from City Town, I ultimately decided to keep the Nordic furniture. The tulip fabric pattern was the inspiration behind this cabin from the very beginning, and I felt that replacing it entirely would make the room a little too sleek and modern. Keeping the Nordic furniture preserved the elegant, feminine atmosphere I was hoping to create. Besides, I think the Modern furniture will be perfect for another office worker from Aggretsuko instead.
One of Washimi's cabin requirements is to include five items with the Rare tag. In the original version, I used five Rare Candles. For this updated design, I replaced one with a Tall Rare Candle and another with a Hothead Terrarium containing a Twinklebug to meet her cabin requirements.
As you might know, once a visitor has become a permanent resident, you no longer need to meet their cabin requirements. Personally, though, I like treating them as a fun decorating challenge. I enjoy creating cabins that not only look beautiful but also feel like they truly belong to each visitor by including furniture and decorations they'll actually appreciate.
Final Thoughts
I'm really happy with how Washimi's cabin evolved over time. While I loved the original Nordic design, the addition of the Modern Criss Cross Flooring and Modern Paneled Wallpaper finally brought the elegant atmosphere I had always imagined for her. I think keeping the tulip details while adding the darker modern elements created a balance that feels very fitting for Washimi.
