When Hello Kitty Island Adventure's City Town expansion first released, I was busy playing a few other games, so I never got around to picking it up right away. When the Steam Summer Sale finally rolled around, I decided it was the perfect time to jump in—and I'm so glad I did.
City Town has honestly surprised me in the best way possible. I expected a fun new area to explore, but I wasn't prepared for just how much it would add to the game. From opening your own café and collecting adorable Plush Pals to solving puzzles, decorating apartments, and discovering hidden secrets beneath the city, I've been having an absolute blast exploring everything it has to offer.
Since there are so many new features packed into the expansion, I wanted to put together this complete City Town guide covering everything you can discover, unlock, and collect along the way. Whether you're just starting your adventure or looking for something you've missed, I hope this guide helps you make the most of your time in the city!

Welcome to City Town
City Town is the biggest expansions added to Hello Kitty Island Adventure so far, introducing an exciting new area filled with colorful streets, adorable characters, unique shops, and plenty of surprises to discover.
At first glance, City Town might not seem all that large, but there's much more than meets the eye. Beyond the bustling streets, you'll uncover hidden areas like the sewer system, rooftop paths, and plenty of secrets waiting to be explored. With new quests, collectibles, and recipes, City Town offers countless new adventures.
In this guide, I'll give you an overview of everything the City Town DLC has to offer, from new friends and visitors to shops, flowers, critters, and much more.
Whether you love decorating cabins, collecting adorable critters, experimenting with new recipes, or simply exploring every hidden corner of the map, City Town has something for every kind of player. No matter how you enjoy Hello Kitty Island Adventure, there's always another surprise waiting just around the corner.
Meet Usahana and Friends - New City Town Visitors
Usahana is the newest permanent friend introduced in the City Town DLC. Full of creativity and imagination, she quickly becomes one of the central characters throughout the new storyline. As your friendship grows, you'll unlock new quests, discover more about City Town, and eventually gain access to exciting features like the Imagination Café.
Along the way, you'll also meet several of Usahana's adorable friends, including Panya, Buppi, Wanwa, Sora, and Nyako, who each bring their own unique personality and charm to City Town. As you continue your adventure, you'll have the opportunity to invite them to Friendship Island and welcome them into your growing community.

Instead of staying in traditional visitor cabins, Usahana's friends can move into the Rainbow Tower Apartments, a colorful apartment building located in the heart of City Town. Rather than using Strawberry Crates like the visitor cabins on Friendship Island, new apartments are unlocked by spending Orange Sherbet Crates, a special resource unique to City Town.
Orange Sherbet Crates can be found scattered throughout City Town as you explore and are also rewarded for serving customers at the Imagination Cafe, giving you plenty of opportunities to expand the tower over time. As you unlock additional apartments, you'll be able to decorate each one to match a visitor's unique requirements and personality.
The Rainbow Tower offers a fun new take on the visitor system, giving you even more opportunities to decorate, collect furniture, and create cozy homes for your newest neighbors.
Imagination Café - Cooking in the Heart of City Town
City Coins can be spent on a variety of rewards, including new ingredients, café exterior customizations, and exclusive City Town furniture that lets you bring the modern, colorful style of the café into your own cabins. One of my favorite parts is being able to customize the café's exterior with different colors and styles. Whether you prefer soft pastel tones, bright and playful colors, or a more elegant look, it's fun to give the café a design that reflects your own personal style. Seeing your customized café whenever you arrive in City Town makes it feel even more like your own little business.

One of my favorite parts of running the café is discovering all of the delicious new recipes exclusive to the Chef Station. From sweet treats like Mochi, Dango, Rainbow Dango, Boba Tea, and Snow Ice to savory dishes like Onigiri, Sando, and Taiyaki, there are plenty of new foods to cook as you expand your menu. Rainbow Dango is also Usahana's three-heart favorite gift, making it one of the most useful recipes to unlock early.
Kirimi-chan & Sashimi Spire
As you continue exploring City Town, you'll discover plenty of new ingredients to collect and meet one of the DLC's most memorable residents: Kirimi-chan, the oddly adorable salmon fillet who calls Sashimi Spire home. I couldn't help smiling whenever they appeared—the combination of being a literal slice of salmon and having such an earnest personality gave me more than a few chuckles throughout the DLC.
To upgrade the Sashimi Spire, you'll need to cook City Town dishes at the Chef Station and feed the spire whatever meal it's currently craving. Each upgrade requires donating a specific number of the same requested dish before the spire is satisfied and grows even taller above the city. As it expands, you'll unlock new ingredients, including Soy Sauce, Wasabi, and Ginger, allowing you to prepare delicious dishes such as Nigiri and eventually Sushi Rolls. You'll also earn adorable Kirimi-chan-themed furniture, making the Sashimi Spire well worth upgrading whether you enjoy cooking, collecting furniture, or decorating cabins.
If you also own the Wheatflour Wonderland expansion, you'll be able to discover even more recipes. After completing Cogimyun's questline, you'll unlock Ramen, which can be cooked using Noodlegrass, a unique ingredient found throughout Wheatflour Wonderland.
Fruit Trees & the Rooftop Orchard - Growing Fresh Fruit Trees
Another fun addition to City Town is the Rooftop Orchard, where you can grow your own fruit trees to harvest brand-new ingredients for the Imagination Café. Early in the questline, Keroppi will give you your very first Apple Sapling, introducing you to the orchard and how fruit trees work.
As you continue exploring City Town, you'll discover additional fruit tree saplings hidden throughout the area. Once planted in the Rooftop Orchard, they'll gradually grow from saplings into fully grown trees over the course of several days before finally producing fruit.
There are plenty of delicious new fruits to collect, including Mangoes, Lychees, Lemons, Cherries, Pears, Plums, and Kiwis. These fresh ingredients can then be used to prepare even more recipes at the Imagination Café, making the orchard a valuable stop for anyone who enjoys cooking.
Once your trees have fully matured, you won't even have to harvest the fruits yourself. Simply speak with the Null wearing the Collector Hat at the orchard, and they'll happily collect all of your ripe fruit each day, making it easy to keep your pantry stocked for your next café session.
Kuromi's Boutique - Create Your Own Avatar Palettes
Using flowers you've collected throughout your adventure, you can create your own custom color palettes in almost any color imaginable. Whether you simply want to swap the colors from an existing palette or create something completely new and unique, the possibilities for personalizing your avatar feel nearly endless.
Even better, every avatar palette you've unlocked throughout the game can be customized. Once you've created a new color palette, it's permanently saved to your collection, allowing you to switch between your custom designs whenever you like. It's an incredibly convenient system that makes it easy to create different looks for every outfit or occasion.
Creating a palette is surprisingly simple. First, choose a colored flower to determine the base color you'd like to use. You can then add either a white or black flower to lighten or darken the shade, giving you precise control over the final result. This makes it possible to create everything from soft pastel tones to deep, rich colors, allowing for a huge variety of unique combinations.
One of my favorite quality-of-life features is that every custom palette you create can be accessed from any mirror or vanity across Friendship Island. That means you can instantly swap between your favorite color combinations without needing to return to Kuromi's Boutique each time.
If you enjoy customizing your avatar, it's definitely worth growing plenty of flowers in your Merry Meadows greenhouse or throughout Friendship Island so you'll always have a wide selection of colors available. Personally, I've already created several different palettes in various shades of purple and pink, and I can already tell I'll be spending plenty of time experimenting with even more combinations!
Tuxedosam's Outfit Emporium - City Town Fashion and Outfit Presets
If you're looking to refresh your wardrobe, Tuxedosam's Outfit Emporium is the perfect place to visit. The shop introduces what feels like hundreds of new outfits and accessories, giving you even more ways to customize your character.While many of the new clothing pieces lean into City Town's cool and stylish streetwear aesthetic, there's also a wonderful collection of colorful outfits inspired by Usahana and her friends. As you continue completing quests, you'll also unlock character-inspired outfit collections that become available for purchase, giving you even more ways to dress as your favorite Sanrio characters. My personal favorites are My Sweet Piano's adorable pastel plush overalls and matching bows. I've already managed to get the overalls, but I'm still patiently checking the Emporium every day, hoping the matching bows will finally appear. I can't wait to complete the outfit!
Another welcome addition is the new Closet located at the back of the Emporium. Here, you can save multiple outfit presets and quickly switch between your favorite looks. Since I love changing outfits to match different cabins, characters, or seasons, I've already found myself using this feature all the time.
Just like the custom avatar palettes from Kuromi's Boutique, your saved outfit presets can be accessed from any mirror or vanity throughout the game. It makes changing your look incredibly quick and convenient, whether you're dressing for a new quest, decorating a cabin, or simply trying out a different style.
Badtz-maru's Arcade – Games, Gashapon & Figure Collecting
There are three different arcade games to enjoy—Perplexing Pipes, Mail Day, and City Run—each rewarding you with Badtz-maru Buckeroos. Personally, I've found myself playing Mail Day the most. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it also seems to reward the highest number of Buckeroos, making it the fastest way I've found to save up for more Treasure Tumbler pulls and City Town furniture.
The Treasure Tumbler offers two ways to collect figures: Wild Tumble, which gives you one completely random figure, or Treasure of the Day, where you can choose from four featured characters and receive three figures of the one you pick. Each option costs x50 Badtz-maru Buckeroos. If you're hoping to collect your favorite Sanrio characters, it's definitely worth checking back every day.
The shop counter also sells an ever-growing selection of City Town furniture, including the adorable Usahana furniture collection that I'm especially excited to collect. Between the arcade games, figure collecting, and exclusive furniture, I can already tell I'll be spending a lot of time here.
It's also the perfect hangout spot for Moppu, who absolutely loves gaming. Seeing him spending time at the arcade feels like such a fitting little detail and makes the place feel even more alive.
Pekkle's Music Shop - Completing Your Music Disc Collection

If you're a completionist like me, Pekkle's Music Shop is definitely worth checking every time you visit City Town. After completing the "Downtown Tunes" quest, you'll unlock this cozy little record shop where Pekkle sells a rotating selection of Music Discs that changes daily.
The shop can stock Common, Uncommon, and even Rare music discs. While the common records can appear at any time, the uncommon and rare selections are limited to discs you've already discovered somewhere in the game. This makes the shop a fantastic way to gradually fill in any missing songs for your music collection without having to revisit the same locations over and over again.
Whether you're trying to complete that pesky Music Disc collection or simply want more background music to enjoy around your island, it's worth making Pekkle's shop part of your daily City Town routine. You never know when the one record you've been missing will finally appear on the shelves.
Hangyodon's Tourist Shop - Vacation Souvenirs & Sightseeing Style
The shop is run by Hangyodon, who's fittingly dressed from head to toe in a full tourist ensemble, complete with a colorful cap, oversized sunglasses, and an "I ♥ City Town" t-shirt. It's a fun little detail that perfectly matches the cheerful atmosphere of the shop and always makes me smile whenever I stop by.
Whether you're looking for a new outfit, collecting every clothing item, or simply want to dress your character like they're enjoying the ultimate City Town vacation, the Tourist Shop is well worth checking out whenever new items become available.
Piano's Plush Pals - Adorable Plushies for Every Cabin
When you first unlock the shop, you'll be able to collect Avocado, Banana, Giraffe, and Seal Plush Pals, with each design available in both a regular and a large size. As you continue progressing through City Town's questlines, you'll also unlock even more adorable additions, including the Crowbert, Nul, and Colorpillar Plush Pals. Unlike many of the other shops around City Town, every Plush Pal you've unlocked remains available for purchase, so there's never any need to wait for the daily shop rotation.
As someone who collects plushies in real life, this quickly became one of my favorite additions in the entire DLC. I love mixing different colors and patterns to create unique Plush Pals for each cabin, and it's such a fun little detail that makes decorating feel even more personal. Whether you're creating a pastel bedroom, a cozy cottage, or a modern City Town apartment, there's always a Plush Pal that fits right in.
The Theater – A Beautiful Stage with Future Potential
Inside, you'll find a cozy stage with several rows of seating, making it feel like the perfect place for performances, concerts, or community events. Be sure to look beside the left side of the stage after finishing the quest—you'll also find the Showtime! Music Disc waiting to be collected.
Although several City Town quests take place here, the Theater doesn't currently have a dedicated gameplay purpose once those quests are complete. Even so, it's one of my favorite locations in City Town thanks to its cozy atmosphere and beautiful design.
I'm really hoping future updates give the Theater a larger role. It would be wonderful if Island Friends & Residents gathered here for weekly performances, movie nights, musical shows, or seasonal events, similar to how everyone visits the Comedy Club or Dance Hall. It already feels like the perfect venue—now it just needs an audience.
More Activities Around City Town
While running your own café, shopping for new outfits, and playing games at the arcade are some of City Town's biggest attractions, there are plenty of other fun activities waiting to be discovered. From solving clever puzzles to exploring the sewers beneath the city, here are a few more adventures you won't want to miss.
Figment Puzzles - City Town's Biggest Treasure Hunt
One of City Town's most unique activities is hunting down Figments, colorful little imaginary creatures hidden throughout the city. Rather than simply collecting them as you find them, each type of Figment comes with its own puzzle or challenge, making exploration feel much more interactive than a traditional collectible hunt.
There are 72 Figments to discover in total, divided into four different categories:
💚 Hidden Figments – When you first interact with a Hidden Figment, it quickly teleports to a new location nearby. Thankfully, you'll catch a brief glimpse of where it disappeared to, and a map marker will help point you in the right direction. You'll need to track it down several times before finally collecting it, making these feel like a fun game of hide-and-seek.
💙 Hungry Figments – These hungry little creatures are looking for a meal! To collect them, you'll need to prepare and deliver a certain number of dishes made at the City Town Chef's Station, giving you another reason to spend time cooking in the Imagination Café.
💜 Platform Figments – These transform into bite-sized platforming challenges where you'll climb pipes, scale walls, leap across moving platforms, and navigate small obstacle courses to reach the Figment waiting at the finish.
💛 Treasure Hunt Figments – These are completely hidden from view and can only be discovered using the Treasure Compass, encouraging you to revisit different parts of City Town once you've unlocked the necessary tool.
Collecting Figments isn't just about completing the achievement. As you reach different collection milestones, you'll unlock exclusive Figment-themed furniture that can be used to decorate your cabins, making exploration feel rewarding from start to finish.
I really enjoyed how each Figment type encourages a different style of gameplay. Instead of simply walking around collecting glowing objects, you're solving puzzles, cooking meals, completing platforming challenges, and searching every corner of City Town. It makes exploring the city feel much more engaging, even after the main story is over.
Sewer Puzzle Rooms
While puzzle rooms aren't new to Hello Kitty Island Adventure, City Town gives them a fun twist by hiding them throughout the underground sewer system. Instead of simply walking inside, each puzzle room is locked behind a gate that requires a City Key to open.
City Keys can be found in a variety of ways as you explore City Town. Some are hidden throughout the city and the sewers themselves, while others are earned through quests or rewarded for progressing through activities like running the Imagination Café. I really liked this system because it encourages you to explore every corner of the expansion instead of rushing through all of the puzzle rooms at once.
In total, there are 13 sewer puzzle rooms waiting to be unlocked. Just like the puzzle rooms on Friendship Island and Wheatflour Wonderland, each one challenges you with platforming, switches, moving obstacles, or other environmental puzzles before rewarding you with a treasure chest at the end.
The rewards are worth the effort too, as the treasure chests contain a variety of City Town-themed furniture and clothing that can't be found anywhere else. If you're hoping to collect every exclusive item from the expansion, you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for every City Key you come across.
Challenge Courses
No Hello Kitty Island Adventure expansion would be complete without a few Challenge Courses, and City Town is home to six of them. Unlike the sewer puzzle rooms, all of these courses are located throughout City Town itself, often requiring you to climb buildings, race across rooftops, and navigate the city's colorful streets as quickly as possible.
Just like the Challenge Courses found throughout the rest of the island, your completion time determines whether you earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold City Trophy Piece. Once you've collected six pieces of the same tier, you can craft the matching City Trophy at the Crafting Station, making them a fun long-term goal for completionists.
If you're aiming for the Gold times, I'd definitely recommend bringing Pochacco as your companion for his movement-related ability. Pairing him with a Speedy Walking Potion can make several of the trickier courses much more forgiving, especially if you're only a second or two away from the next medal. Pompompurin can also be a helpful companion depending on the course, making it easier to shave precious seconds off your final time.
Even if you've completed plenty of Challenge Courses before, I enjoyed how City Town's version takes advantage of the area's vertical design. Running across rooftops, climbing colorful pipes, and weaving through the busy city makes these courses feel noticeably different from those on Friendship Island.
Photo Ops
As you explore City Town, you'll occasionally come across Photo Ops, marked by a camera icon. Interacting with one lets you recreate a scenic pose and snap a souvenir photo of your adventure. While they don't offer gameplay rewards like the Challenge Courses or Sashimi Spire, they're a fun way to capture memorable moments and appreciate some of City Town's most picturesque locations.
Gudetama Hunt
While exploring City Town, don't forget to keep an eye out for the adorable Gudetama hiding around every corner. There aren't nearly as many to find as on Friendship Island, but I still had a lot of fun hunting them down—especially the cleverly hidden ones tucked away in the Sewers.
After completing Pochacco's "City Laze" quest, you'll receive a reward for every six Gudetama you photograph. Simply interact with the Gudetama Sign in City Town to claim your prizes. As you collect more Gudetama, you'll unlock a series of Gudetama-themed furniture pieces, as well as Eggs, a valuable cooking ingredient used in many recipes.
New Collectibles Around City Town
City Town also introduces a wonderful variety of new collectibles for completionists to hunt down. Whether you enjoy gardening, fishing, bug catching, or simply filling out every collection in the game, there's plenty to discover throughout the city's streets, parks, waterways, and underground tunnels.
Rainbow Beams
Rainbow Beams are a special collectible material found exclusively in City Town. After unlocking Rainfall by completing the "Rainbow or Bust" quest, you can collect 3 Rainbow Beams each day around the area.
During rainfall, 3 additional Rainbow Beams can spawn, allowing you to collect up to 9 before they stop appearing if left uncollected. You also have a chance to receive a Rainbow Beam as a gift from customers at the Imagination Café, even before Rainfall is unlocked.
Rainbow Beams are used in several City Town crafting recipes. Most notably, they're needed to make Rainbow Dango, Usahana's favorite three-heart gift, making them well worth collecting every day.
New Critters to Catch Around City Town
City Town introduces several brand-new critters to discover, giving bug-catching fans even more creatures to add to their collection. As you explore the city's parks, rooftops, alleyways, and hidden corners, you'll come across adorable new species like the Citywing, Colorpillar, Crowbert, Dust Bun, and Squeakle.
Just like the other critters found throughout Hello Kitty Island Adventure, some species only appear at certain times of day, meaning you'll need to revisit different areas during the morning, afternoon, or evening to complete your collection. Keeping your net handy while exploring City Town is always worthwhile—you never know when a rare critter might be waiting around the next corner.
I especially love how each critter perfectly matches City Town's colorful, imaginative atmosphere. They add so much life to the streets and parks, making every new discovery feel like a fun little surprise.
City Critter Park
Once you've caught a few of City Town's newest critters, be sure to stop by the City Critter Park. Just like the Nature Preserve on Friendship Island and the Merry Meadows Critter Corral, this dedicated habitat lets you donate every species you've discovered and watch the park gradually come to life as your collection grows.
Beyond serving as a home for your donated critters, the park is also worth exploring in its own right. It features a Photo Op, one of City Town's Challenge Courses, and even hides a few secrets—including a City Key tucked beneath the bridge connecting the park to the shopping district. Whether you're visiting to admire your growing collection or simply exploring every corner of City Town, the City Critter Park is well worth adding to your itinerary.
Imaginary Food — Not Quite Fish, Not Quite Critters
One of City Town's most unusual collectibles is Imaginary Food. These quirky, floating pieces of sushi and seafood might look like they belong on a dinner plate, but they're actually considered imaginary technology rather than living creatures. Because of this, they don't appear in your Critter Collection, can't be donated to the City Critter Park, and instead serve as unique ingredients for cooking at the Chef Station.
Imaginary Fish — Imaginary Crab • Imaginary Eel • Imaginary Salmon • Imaginary Scallop • Imaginary Sea Urchin • Imaginary Shrimp • Imaginary Squid • Imaginary TunaYou'll unlock your first Imaginary Food as you progress through Kirimi-chan's questline. As you continue upgrading the Sashimi Spire, even more varieties begin appearing throughout City Town, especially within the Sewers. Most Imaginary Food can be found floating through the sewers and is caught using your Net, just like catching critters. However, not every variety is collected the same way. The Imaginary Salmon, for example, swims through the ocean near City Beach and must be caught underwater using the Bubble Wand, just like a regular fish.
Each type of Imaginary Food provides a different Imaginary Flavor, such as Imaginary Fish, Imaginary Crab, or Imaginary Seafood, making them essential ingredients for preparing many of City Town's unique recipes. I love how these strange little ingredients encourage you to explore every corner of City Town, from the winding sewer tunnels to the waters surrounding the island, making the world feel even more creative and alive.
New Fish Swimming Around City Town
Of course, no new region would be complete without a fresh collection of fish to catch! City Town introduces several new aquatic species, including the Coral Scouter, Twilight Eye, Sunbarb, Pastel Perch, Marbled Mackerel, and the mysterious Shadow Spray.

Unlike the Imaginary Food found in the sewers, these are actual fish that can be caught with your fishing rod. They're scattered across a variety of locations, from the open waters surrounding City Town to small ponds hidden throughout the city, while one elusive species can even be found lurking deep within the sewers.
Just like many other fish in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, some species only appear during certain times of day, so you'll need to explore both day and night if you're hoping to complete your Fish Collection. One thing that makes tracking them down a little easier is that all of City Town's fish prefer food prepared at the City Town Chef's Station. Bringing along their favorite bait can greatly improve your chances of catching the fish you're looking for.
Whether you're relaxing by the waterfront or searching the city's hidden waterways, City Town offers plenty of new fishing spots that make every trip feel like a new adventure.
Sunburst Flowers – City Town's Native Bloom
No new area would be complete without a beautiful new flower to collect, and City Town introduces the Sunburst. This cheerful bloom is the region's native flower and becomes available after completing the "A Garden Heist" quest, which also unlocks City Town's flower plots.
Their default color is a bright orange and white, and just like the other flowers found throughout Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Sunbursts can be crossbred to create a variety of new colors, giving gardeners even more possibilities to experiment with. If you're lucky, fertilizing a Sunburst also has a small chance of producing the beautiful Sunbeam pattern. Since the pattern only has a 1% chance of appearing each time you apply fertilizer to a non-patterned flower, collecting every variation can become a fun long-term gardening project.
Final Thoughts
While City Town offers plenty of adorable pastel furniture, cute clothing, and charming decorations that fit surprisingly well with my aesthetic, it's the gameplay that truly makes this expansion shine. The DLC introduces so many fun new mechanics and quality-of-life improvements that every play session feels rewarding. From exploring entirely new areas like the bustling city streets, rooftops, and winding sewers to unlocking unique collectibles, ingredients, fish, critters, furniture, and clothing, there's always something new to discover. Every corner of City Town feels thoughtfully designed, making it one of the most engaging and rewarding areas in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
City Town is one of those places that kept surprising me every time I thought I'd seen everything. I'd head out to collect one ingredient, only to stumble across a hidden chest, another rooftop I'd somehow overlooked, or a brand-new collectible to add to my growing collection. It's packed with thoughtful little details that constantly encourage curiosity and make you want to keep coming back.
