After much waiting and anticipation, we can finally travel to the Cryo Nation of Snezhnaya in Genshin Impact and explore everything it has to offer! The final major nation of Teyvat has been teased for years, and finally getting to step into this frozen land for ourselves is honestly a little surreal. Located in the far north of Teyvat, Snezhnaya is the nation of eternal winter and the homeland of the Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon, and the Fatui. It is also the setting for Chapter VII of the Archon Quest, making its arrival a particularly exciting milestone as we continue our journey across Teyvat.
Since I haven't had the chance to explore all of Snezhnaya just yet, this won't be a comprehensive overview or guide. Instead, I wanted to share some of my first impressions of the region, talk about the things that have caught my attention so far, and, of course, share some of the things I'm most excited about as we begin exploring this new nation.
While I know that many Travelers have thoroughly enjoyed previous regions such as Natlan, Fontaine, and Nod-Krai, I personally haven't been this excited about a new update since Inazuma first came out. After all these years of waiting, I'm so excited to finally set foot in Snezhnaya, discover what this frozen nation has to offer, and see what this new chapter of Genshin Impact has in store for us!
The World of Snezhnaya
First of all, I obviously have to talk about Snezhnaya itself. The region seems heavily inspired by the vast, snow-covered landscapes of northern Russia, particularly Siberia. As someone who comes from the colder parts of Sweden, which naturally has a very different landscape and climate from Russia, I'm still especially excited to see a nation in Genshin Impact inspired by the colder northern regions that feel somewhat familiar to me.
When I first entered Snezhnaya, I was obviously incredibly excited—but I also immediately got some Dragonspine flashbacks. Between the snowy landscape and the temperature mechanic introduced almost immediately upon entering the region, it's hard not to think back to our first major encounter with Genshin's extreme cold.
But despite those similarities, Snezhnaya couldn't feel further removed from Dragonspine.
Dragonspine feels like a remote, hostile mountain where the cold itself is constantly working against you. Snezhnaya, on the other hand, feels like an entire civilization that has learned to live with winter. There are sprawling cities, busy streets, industrial machinery, warm lights shining through the snow, and people simply going about their daily lives despite the freezing temperatures.
And I think that's what makes Snezhnaya feel so special to me. It's not simply a frozen region—it feels like a world that has been shaped by the cold.
At the same time, there's a certain sense of magic and fairytale wonder woven into the region that I absolutely love. Beneath the harsh winter landscapes and industrial cities, Snezhnaya has this almost storybook-like atmosphere, with snow-covered forests, mysterious landscapes, glowing lights, and a sense that something magical could be waiting just beyond the next hill. It reminds me of the way winter landscapes in northern folklore and fairytales can feel both beautiful and slightly mysterious.
That combination of harshness and wonder is something I find incredibly charming. Snezhnaya can feel cold, imposing, and even a little intimidating, but it can also feel peaceful, magical, and strangely cozy. Rather than simply using snow as a visual theme, the region seems to embrace the many different moods that winter can have—and I think that's what makes exploring it so captivating.
New and Upcoming Characters
While we've already met several characters from Snezhnaya or encountered others who are connected to the region in one way or another during our travels across Teyvat, what I'm most excited about in Snezhnaya is the many new characters we have already been introduced to, as well as those we'll meet as we continue exploring the nation. And, of course, that includes both playable and unplayable characters!
I won't be introducing every single character here, but there are a few in particular that I'm especially excited about.
It's pretty clear that the Tsaritsa, the Archon of Snezhnaya, is one of the most highly anticipated characters in the region, and I'm certainly curious to finally meet her as well. However, I have to admit that my own excitement lies elsewhere!
I'm actually most excited about Odette, Vodyanitsa, and Vesna. I absolutely fell in love with their designs as soon as I saw them in some of the early trailers for Snezhnaya, and each of them has something that appeals to me in a completely different way.
First, there's Odette, whose elegant ballerina-inspired design immediately caught my attention. She's also a Cryo character, which feels especially fitting for Snezhnaya, and I absolutely love how graceful and delicate her overall design is. Her banner is currently running with the release of Version 7.0, and unfortunately, I haven't had any luck pulling her yet—but I'm definitely not giving up! I'm determined to keep trying as I explore Snezhnaya and save up my Primogems.
Then we have Vodyanitsa, who might be my favorite design of the three. As someone who absolutely loves fairytales and magical creatures, I was immediately drawn to her. Her design is inspired by a vodyanitsa, a type of water spirit from Slavic folklore, and she has this beautiful, otherworldly quality that I absolutely adore. She also somehow reminds me of Kokomi, who happens to be one of my absolute favorite characters in the entire game, so I was pretty much guaranteed to love her.
And then there's Vesna, who quite literally looks like a little fairy! As someone who loves all things magical and whimsical, her design immediately stole my heart. She's also an Anemo character, which somehow feels incredibly appropriate for her ethereal appearance and fairy-like aesthetic.
Whether these three actually work well together as a team or not, I already know my Snezhnaya team is going to consist of these three characters. I'll figure out the team composition later—the important thing is that I have already decided who I'm bringing with me!
There are, of course, plenty of other interesting characters being introduced in Snezhnaya, and I'm sure some of them will surprise me as I continue through the story. But for now, Odette, Vodyanitsa, and Vesna have completely stolen my heart, and I can't wait to see more of them.
Looking Forward to More Snezhnaya!
While we've already been told about and introduced to several exciting new mechanics and features coming with Snezhnaya, those are things I won't be covering in this post. For now, I think it's much more fun to discover them for ourselves as we continue exploring this new region! There is still so much left for me to see, and I may expand on this post or write more about Snezhnaya as we continue exploring and even more of the region opens up to us.
For now, I'm just incredibly excited to keep exploring, discover everything Snezhnaya has to offer, and—hopefully—finally get all the new characters I've been looking forward to for so long! I have a feeling I'll be spending quite a lot of time in this snowy nation.
I hope you're having just as much fun exploring Snezhnaya as I am, and I can't wait to see what adventures await us in this new chapter of Genshin Impact! What are you most excited about in Snezhnaya? Is there a character you've been waiting for, a place you're excited to explore, or something else you've been looking forward to? I'd love to hear about it!
